We’re also near the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, Minnesota Street Project, and numerous alternative art spaces that blur the lines between craft and digital design.
Being selected for an interview doesn’t indicate applicant status or increase or decrease an applicant’s chances of being admitted into their desired graduate program. Interviews are conducted at the program’s discretion and are used to gain more insight into an application. Equity, ecological vitality, and economic resilience are reimagined through urban and territory scaled analysis, narratives, and arguments. The Digital Craft Lab features experimental making through emerging technologies, teaching you about advanced computation, robotics, responsive environments, rapid prototyping, and more. PASADENA (CBSLA) — General Motors plans to spend $71 million on building a new, 149,000-square-foot campus in Pasadena, the automotive company announced Tuesday.
You’ll forge lifelong connections with intellectuals, researchers, and practitioners who work across multiple disciplines. The MAAD History/Theory/Experiments concentration offers an intense year of advanced study in architectural and urban history, theory, and criticism, culminating in an independent research project. You’ll explore politically engaged forms of spatial activism, historical research methods, architectural writing, and more. During your first semester, you’ll take a required course in architectural theory, advanced seminars in research and interpretation, along with an open elective.
Mr. Janin has led multiple projects for Sécheron from conception to completion. Currently Tony Janin is Area Sales Manager at Sécheron SA for the North American market for both Railway and Industrial applications. Mr. Janin’s area of knowledge includes Sécheron’s, Switchgear, Power Conversion, Rectifiers, Power Control and Monitoring Systems. "Pasadena is central to Southern California's impressive design and engineering talent pool, so we are very enthusiastic about General Motor's decision to locate their Advanced Design Center here," she said in a statement. "Pasadena's Art Center College of Design continues to produce top tier transportation designers. With the new location, GM will be in immediate proximity to both Art Center, Caltech and other top technology-based and design firms."
You’ll complete an independent thesis project in your second semester, guided by a faculty mentor and an optional external advisor. You’ll learn how to leverage architectural design and form to impact social justice, ecological vitality, and economic resilience within communities. You’ll advance novel strategies of research, design, and scholarship to model new forms of practice and develop innovative solutions to urban challenges. Our high-profile, dedicated faculty believe that architecture and interior design are critical cultural practices. They research and write about a range of topics and experiment with alternative materials and processes. Their primary pedagogical tools—hands-on lab work and research—guide students throughout studio and seminar investigations, from experiments in collective living to the construction of ecologically resilient structures.
Her taste is impeccable-you are not only getting a first-rate contractor in Cindy, but a wonderfully talented designer as well! As an added bonus, Ms. Atchley is a pleasure to work with-warm, friendly, a good listener and a lovely person. There is no question about recommending her for any renovation/remodel-she is by far, an outstanding contractor and we feel lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her.
The facility’s relocation from its existing space in North Hollywood to the nearly 149,000-square-foot campus will make room for expanded advanced technology teams that will help accelerate GM’s goal of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. The new site is closer to technology centers on the West Coast and creates a recruiting opportunity with its proximity to leading universities and design schools. With thousands of hours of experience designing complex components and assemblies, our engineers can provide solutions to any and all customer challenges. From aerospace to medical devices and race cars, we help you bring your ideas to the market. Establish a cross-disciplinary architecture practice in digital craft, urban design, or history, theory, and criticism. ADC’s versatility helps leading architectural and construction companies realize their dreams.
GM’s advanced design team focuses on developing concept and future mobility projects that fall outside the scope of existing production vehicle programs. Creating alternative mobility applications can reveal opportunities for transformative innovation and help influence future GM products and services, while exploring new growth opportunities for the company. The MAAD Digital Craft concentration focuses on contemporary digital design technologies and digital craft. You’ll get both broad and in-depth exposure to contemporary topics such as parametric design, advanced computation, digital fabrication, robotic techniques, and building information modeling. During your first semester, you’ll develop a specific research trajectory. You’ll integrate digital design concepts with fabrication and prototyping tools in your second semester to realize a full-scale project.

The process of collecting data points of a surface to accurately represent an object in digital three-dimensional space. As points are collected, they cover an object’s surface creating a “point cloud” in the exact shape and size of the object. The point cloud can then be rendered into a mesh (.STL) where all the points are connected with lines to create a surface made up completely of triangles. For part inspection, analysis, reverse-engineering, design, historic/art preservation and more, 3D scanning is a quick, thorough and cost-effective method for capturing real-world objects in digital space. Each summer, the architecture programs host a 333 Studio, which invites three outside critics to work with students for three weeks in a lab-like environment.
The investment also signals GM’s long-term commitment to maintain a physical presence in one of North America’s largest hubs for multidisciplinary design and cutting-edge innovation. The new campus, which sits on 8 acres, will expand GM’s capacity to support emerging business opportunities in areas of advanced technology, software integration and future mobility solutions. Leading medical equipment manufacturers have worked with ADC to produce CPR training devices, design and develop prototypes and manufacture adjustable prosthetic devices. This presentation discusses the different elements, applicable standards, and common industry trends used in dc and traction power applications. The objective of this presentation is to provide designers and specifiers with technical knowledge in DC applications used in traction applications and provide detailed insight into new product concepts used throughout the world. GM announces a more than $71 million investment to establish a new, nearly 149,000-square-foot campus in Pasadena, California, for GM’s Advanced Design Center operations, a move that will substantially increase the center’s capacity and create more jobs in the area.
